D1.5 Touristic Ports
The subject of the course is the planning and design of touristic ports. Touristic ports are the ports providing services to yachting and cruising in the first place; port facilities providing services to seaplanes are also included. The course includes a) a description of the nautical tourist market, the requirements for planning procedure of the touristic ports, their environmental and economic impacts, b) elements of the existing institutional framework in Greece and drivers for development c) design criteria for ports based on vessel’s and ship’s special needs, and d) requirements for land facilities based on the needs of the ships and the passengers. The above topics are covered with the following order:
- Introduction to nautical tourism (yachting – cruising).
- Characteristics of yachts, cruise ships and seaplanes.
- The brand name in tourism.
- The industry and market of yachting in the Mediterranean and in Greece.
- The Greek touristic ports system, opportunities to development, legal framework of touristic ports.
- Planning of touristic ports (planning, environmental and financial considerations).
- External (seaside) infrastructures of marinas (entrance, breakwaters and basin).
- Inner port structures and land based support facilities.
- Seaplanes: infrastructures for seaplanes.
- The cruise industry and worldwide markets.
- The cruise market in the Mediterranean and in Greece.
- Seaside and landside infrastructures for cruise ships.
